CITY FLOW
A downloadable game
A compact solo city-building roll-and-write about adapting to urban growth and building an efficient transit network.
CITY FLOW is a 15-25 minute print-and-play strategy game for one player. Each round, two dice create a new development pressure: one die determines what the city needs, while the other determines where that growth wants to happen.
You can accept that pressure and expand your transit network, or spend one of only three Planning Overrides to redirect growth into a neighboring district - giving up infrastructure progress for better positioning.
The city is never fully under your control. Your job is to make the system work anyway.
PUBLIC PLAYTEST v0.3
This is a free public playtest, not a finished commercial release. The core game is playable from start to finish, but balance, wording, scoring and individual rules may change based on player feedback.
What you need
- 1 player
- 2 standard six-sided dice (2d6)
- Pencil or pen
- Printer
- 2 printable pages: one play sheet and one rules sheet
Play time
Approximately 15-25 minutes.
HOW IT WORKS
Each of 12 rounds:
- Roll 2d6.
- One die determines the development type; the other determines district A-F.
- Choose whether to Accommodate the growth or spend a limited Planning Override to Redirect it to a neighboring district.
- If you Accommodate, extend your connected transit network by one segment.
- After 12 rounds, score Accessible developments and District Synergy.
WHAT WE ARE TESTING
The main questions for v0.3 are:
- Do the three Planning Overrides create meaningful timing decisions?
- Is Redirect useful without becoming the obvious answer?
- Does the transit network affect where you want to build?
- Does District Synergy make development types matter?
- Do different starting HUBs produce noticeably different cities?
- Would you play another game?
FEEDBACK
If you play, please leave a comment on this page. Even a short report is useful.
If possible, include:
- Final score
- Approximate play time
- Starting HUB (HA-HF)
- Number of Planning Overrides used
- Anything that was unclear
- The hardest or most interesting decision
- Whether you would play again
A photo of your completed city is especially useful because it helps us check whether different sessions are really producing different urban layouts.
Thank you for helping test CITY FLOW.
